Chronology

1959-1966 Rome  Apprenticeship under the painter, G. Caporali.

“Cluster of Houses”  These two paintings represent clusters of houses inspired by the transformation of the Italian provincial life.

1963 Rome  Permanent exhibition at the Art Cultural Center, and Gallery “Modigliani” including the artists: G. Caporali, Sho Chiba, Ikoyo Chiba, G. Santoro, E. Cianfoni, A. Serafini.

1963 Rome  Enrolls in the Academy of Fine Art

1964 Genzano   Wins 1st Prize exhibition of the 20th Anniversary of the Italian Liberation (WWII).

1965 Rome  2nd Prize exhibition of Poetry and Art at the Cultural Association (CIAC)

1965 Rome  Participates in the group show at the Gallery of Modern Art

1966 Rome  Teatro Ridotto Dell’Eliseo, stage designer for the comedy “Turlututu” by Marcel Achard. The newspaper Messegero comments: “Open stage applause”.

1966-1968 Rome  Represented by the gallery La Borgognona.

1968 New York  Went to New York on the recommendation of Marcello Venturoli to work in the studio of Ben Shahn in New Jersey

1968-1972 New York  Attended courses in portrait painting at the Art Student League with Edwin Dickinson and works as an assistant to the painter Boris Vasilov.

1973 New York  Betty Parsons Gallery, exhibits in the New Talent Art Festival. New York Times, New Talent Festival at 18 Galleries, “Parsons shows notable work.”-Hilton Kramer. These mixed media works represent trees resembling sparrows placed in formations and at different levels of depth. Betty Parson Gallery expressed interest and curator Jock Truman identified the work as Symbolic Expressionism.

1974 New York For the Metropolitan Museum, participates in the 1976 Bicentennial Coin Competition representing a drawing of “America Guide by Wisdom”.

1975 Tucson, Arizona  Parsons Gallery, participates in the America West Exhibition 2-28, NYC Artist Drawing.

1976-2001 Miami  During this period he dedicated most of his time to art conservation, at the Vizcaya Museum, also in the 1980s for the monumental sites of San Juan, PR

1978 Miami  Emilio develops a subtropical formula for lime-based paint used on historical and architectural works

1980  By the recommendation of Mr. Carl J. Weinhardt, Jr. he was listed in the encyclopedia “Who’s Who in American Art”

1993 Coral Gables  Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Emilio acts as colorist to paint all of the main buildings on property. After being granted the creative freedom with color selection by director William M. Klein, Emilio chooses colors that integrate the buildings with the surroundings. 

2000 Miami  “Seven Reds,” 20 x 16,  “Five Browns,” 16 x 20

2010 Miami  Presumably a portrait of Saint Peter. This was the first work after many years of an absence from painting. It was taken from a fresco portrait found in a catacomb in Rome.

2013 Miami  Portrait of Valentina, the family ” Teddy Bear” dog.

2014  Wynwood  Mi Art Gallery: Mimmo Paladino and Emilio Cianfoni presents The Story of Pinocchio. In this show he features two figurative and two abstract works.
